Gorey Bypass started out as a simple blog to keep my family and friends abreast on my recovery from emergency coronary artery bypass surgery in the winter of 2017. What began as something as simple as updating the progress of my total step count and pain reduction has grown into so much more.
The Gorey Bypass Podcast launched in the summer of 2020 as I navigated the path to wellness upon my release from Vassar Brother’s Hospital. I have since stumbled upon information and guidance that has transformed my life. I spent the majority of 2017 reading, cooking, and walking my way to better health. As the time between my surgery and my present grows the more my path becomes clear.
Heart disease is the number one killer of humans. Yes, more than cancer, more than car accidents and way more than bullets. In fact during 2017 over 800,000 Americans will die of cardiovascular disease, which is the umbrella term that includes heart disease, stroke and heart failure.
Heart disease is so rampant that one of every three of us will die of it. On Friday the 13th, 2017 I was almost one of the unlucky parts of that statistic. Two successful bypasses and one not so successful one later I was still alive, barely, and after over a week of recovery in Intensive Care I was released and began the long journey into the life of a heart disease patient.
I have never taken anything so seriously in my entire life, and yet I have come across so many people that either don’t understand the real threat that heart disease poses or are simply in denial that their lifestyle choices play a significant part in the cause and effect of their health and wellness.
Here at Gorey Bypass we aim to provide you with the information you need to begin your transformation from heart disease sufferer to heart disease survivor. The blog is a great place to start and the podcasts are just starting to heat up.
There is no miracle cure for heart disease. The cure is you. It is in your mind, your body and on your plate. You can decide to take the easy, and likely shorter life path or you can come with us and turn the tables on this devastating disease.
